Insomnia: the thief in the night. Every night thousands are robbed of the sleep they need by insomnia.
Insomnia ruins the night with a mind that refuses to shut off and endless
tossing and turning. But it doesn't end there because the next day the
victim of insomnia suffers from sleep deprivation. They may find it difficult
to accomplish everyday tasks, or enjoy fun activities because they haven't
gotten the sleep they need. Insomnia is the most common sleep disorder, but few sufferers discuss
it with their doctor. When a doctor is consulted often the only treatment
offered is sleeping pills. While sleeping pills may work temporarily,
they too often lose their effect. And even when sleeping pills do work
they produce a shallow artificial sleep that is inferior to natural sleep. The goal of our insomnia treatment program is to restore a natural sleep
pattern. This is accomplished though a variety of behavioral changes.
Sometimes the use of bright light (either sunlight or a specially designed
light box) can be used to enhance the natural sleep wake cycle. The goal
of treatment is to improve both nighttime sleep and next day energy. |
